We’re introducing a new Community-based mentoring program under the Hispanic Mentoring Initiative (HMI) called Tres Hermanos. This program focuses upon one-to-one matching of Hispanic male volunteers to Hispanic Little Brothers. There are a couple of differences from the regular Community-based program:
1. Volunteers are encouraged to recruit two of their friends to be matched at the same time, so all three Matches can routinely partake in activities together. Since friends already get together on a regular basis, they can be matched to Hispanic Little Brothers and bring them along, forming a Tres Hermanos family.
2. Tres Hermanos includes two to three cultural activities per year for the Matches to celebrate their Hispanic heritage.
3. All Tres Hermanos Matches are assigned to the same Program Specialist to facilitate communication between the Agency and the Matches.
4. An advisory group of Tres Hermanos participants help assess the progress of the group, identify opportunities to recruit more volunteers, and plan culturally relevant and appropriate activities.
To participate, or if you are interested in learning more, please contact Denise Flaten at (602) 393-4139 or dflaten@bbbsaz.org.
