Kyiv is the city where the modern and the old create excellent possibilities for historical and aesthetical tourism. Nevertheless, before you become a visitor to this incredible city, take some time to figure out at least two things: where you will spend your nights and how you are going to get around the place.

Let us discuss choosing a flat. Start by considering what you can afford and personal preference, you can either choose to rent a room in a Kiev hotel, or rent an apartment. Count the stars on Kiev hotels to evaluate the comfort you require and the price you can afford.

Kyiv boasts of several five and four star hotels. There are literary dozens of less chic Kiev accommodation opportunities. A luxury hotel will be approximately $400-850 per 24 hrs, 4 stars will cost $150-$500, 3 star hotels will cost you about $70-300, 2 stars will be from $50 to 120 and small and one star hotels cost around 25-100 per night.

There exist also several hostels in Kiev for students and young people. In a regular hostel you can have unpretentious but fresh accommodation facilities and some beds in one room.

In case you are looking for an opportunity to save some buck, you can rent an apartment. Instead of a small hotel room for about $90-150 you could rent an excellent apartment in the downtown. Single room cheep apartments may be rent for less than $50. Many companies that give for rent this kind of Kyiv apartments might as well meet you at the airport. It would be much safer to reserve the flat some days ahead.

If you are really desperate for money or want to experience something spicey, you could rent a sleeping berth in a train. There is a train depot not far from the train station ?Karavaevy dachi? where you can rent a compartment for some $15. Attempt the option at your own risk.

Surely noone comes to Kiev to spend their time indoors. The megalopolis provides lots of great places of interest if you can find your way around. Do not worry, though. The public transportation is quite decent.

The most convenient way to move around is Kiev taxis. They will deliver you you from the station to wherever you are staying for less than $35. In fact, for a visitor from the European Union or the US, the Ukrainian taxis should be reasonably inexpensive. It is easy to taxi Kiev around. However, in case you do not inrend to use only taxis in Kyiv, the city has some other transport options to offer.

First of all, it is the underground that can get you almost anywhere in the city. It is especially practical when you travel a long way during hot hours with huge traffic jams on the surface. Second of all, there are buses, trolley busses and trams. These are quite cheep: you pay a fixed amount to go any distance. However, they don't have a schedule of passage. Third, you can travel afoot or use Kiev's unique transport - funicular that goes up the bank of Dnieper River. And finally, you can just walk around.

Come visit Kyiv. The city has got plenty of attractions to please a curious visitor.
