How do we define a semiconductor? It's usually produced of materials with special electrical resistance (it is between that of a conductor and a non-conductor). The resistance of semiconductors also is influenced by changes in temperature or used dashes.

The material is known to have impurities if some different components have been put to it. The complete combination characterizes the semi-conductors as thyristors of type-n and type-t.

Diodes and transistors are made of the two variants of semiconductors. It's known that today the most popular material for semi-conductor manufacture is silicon.

Diode in its turn is the electronic component produced of semi-conductor substance. It helps electrical current pass just in a single sense. In each diode there is a component made of positive and negative elements (p- and n-) and of barrier level (known as pn-transfer). Diodes produce electrical circuits changing between direct and alternating current. Only 1/2 of the series or cycle is to pass by due to that diodes let current flow just in one direction. A junction of this kind is assigned as a rectifier.

LED (light diodes) is one more kind of diodes. Such diodes are used in case it's necessary to create light at small voltages and at the same time get no warmth. In PC, photo cameras and cell phones, different gadgets these days one may see LED diodes because they are used to show the idle mode.

The popularity of thyristors manufactures was led by Moore's law. The most significant point for producing complicated power semi-conductor equipment at smaller cost is now lithography. Speaking of optical lithography, it eventually gives way to the increase of new technologies as it has come to its development limit. Admittedly ultraviolet lithography and nano-imprint lithography are to become the alternative methods of optical lithography. Read the rest of this entry »
